Fishbone Stinging in the Throat

Fish bones should come to mind when you experience a sting in your throat that starts with swallowing while eating fish. Although the stinging sensation caused by small fish bones is not very severe, their detection and removal may cause problems. Larger fish bones may cause a more severe stinging sensation, but they are harder to miss. Although the first place where fish bones get stuck may be the tonsils, their location may not always be easily detected.⠀ ⠀ • Cough⠀ • Prickly or tingling sensation in the throat⠀ • Pain while swallowing⠀ • Difficulty swallowing⠀ • Feeling of fullness in the throat⠀ • A sharp pain in the area where the fishbone affects the throat⠀ • Blood in saliva⠀ • Symptoms such as increased salivation may occur.⠀ ⠀ The ENT specialist will usually quickly remove the fish bone stuck in the throat. In some cases, endoscopy may be needed to find and dislodge the bone. In rare cases, he may have to use x-rays to find the bone.
